Biographic comments
Syrian ṣūfī. He had a military background and as a young man devoted himself to furūsiyya and hunting, but later turned towards scholarship and ṣūfism. In 924 he made the pilgrimage and settled in Ḥiǧāz, staying in Makka and Madīna.
