Biographic comments

One of the most famous poets of the pre-Islamic era. He was contemporary to the Prophet. He is the outhor of a very famous qaṣīda, known with the title of "Bānat Suʻād", the beginning of its first verse, in the style of the pre-Islamic traditional poetry, in praise of the Prophet and the Qurayš. He recited it, after his conversion to Islam, in front of Muḥammad, in Medina, in the year 9 H., and received from him his mantle as a reward: hence the poem is also famous as "Qaṣīdat al burda" (Ode of the mantle).
