Biographic comments

He was born in Tawzar (Tunisia) and studied with a number of scholar of his time, for example the jurist Abū al-Ḥasan al-Laḫamī (d. 478 H.) and Muḥammad b. ʻAlī al-Māzarī (d. 536 H.). He also moved to different place of Algeria and Morocco teaching grammar, fiqh, uṣūl al-fiqh. He is best remembered for his poem named al-Munfariǧa, a popular supplication in verse (ǧīmiyya).
