Ḥanafī jurist. He spent most of his life in Egypt, with only one brief trip to Syria. His fame depends on his writings which include works of fiqh , works on technical legal and judicial matters, ḥadīt̲ criticism, and a famous and enduring statement of the Muslim creed.
