Biographic comments
He was a Sudanese soldier, and one of the anṣār (here in the sense of "supporters") during the Mahdist war against the British and their Egyptian allies. He succeded to the Mahdī Muḥammad Aḥmad and was finally defeated at the Battle of Omdurman on September 2, 1898.
