Biographic comments
Influential Persian scholar, historian (Taʼrīḫ al-Rusul wa-l-Muluk) and exegete of the Qurʼān (Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī); he also wrote on fiqh, poetry, lexicography, grammar, mathematics and medicine. He started his scholar carrer in Rayy, where he studied jurisprudence according to the Ḥanafī school; then he moved to Baghdad and other Iraqī cities, where he started following other maḏāhib, except the Ḥanbalī. In his late twenties he travelled to Syria, Palestine and Egypt. He died in Baghdad.
