Biographic comments
One of the most peculiar figures of Egyptian Sufism in Mamlūk period, al-Matbūlī was master of ʻAlī al-Ḫawāṣṣ and a constant reference in the works of al-Šāʻrānī.
He was illiterate and he never got married. People credited him with miracles and supernatural powers. His influence on Egyptian Sufism can be considered the establishing of circles, disregarding the belonging to a specific order, where some basic practical and moral valued were shared and respected, like getting a job to provide one's living and avoid begging.
