Biographic comments
King of Šäwa with diplomatic skills and military ability which enabled him to restore order and peace in the region where widespread restlessness, particularly among the Oromo had developed. His success was mainly based on the time-worn policy of "divide and rule" over the various Oromo clans of central and western Šäwa. His reign was also signed by the unprecedented arrival of Europeans, missionaries as well as diplomats, and explorers at his court. He received them well and took them along on his campaigns. These travellers left behind a corpus of literary material on the Šäwa of the 1840s, referring in particular to the peace and prosperity og this kingdom and on the good administration of its ruler.
