Biographic comments
Born in Baṣra, he spent most of his life in Baghdad. He was the pupil of the muʻtazilī master al-Ǧubbā'i, but in 912 he left the muʻtazilites and became one of their main opponents. He wrotne several works about theology, which became the basis for the development of the eponym school.
